BIM IMPLEMENTATION

CHANGING FROM A TRADITIONAL CAD SYSTEM TO BIM IS MORE THAN CHANGING SOFTWARE

Any type of change can be a cause for concern, and we can be especially reluctant to it when we have less control over the steps that need to be taken. That’s why APOGEA works alongside any company in the AEC sector that decides to take the leap to BIM. We provide advice at every stage during the process to ensure a successful transition and minimise productivity losses.

Tailoring our BIM implementation solutions to your needs is our priority. We understand that no two companies are the same, which is why we always provide unique BIM implementation solutions for every client. We recognise that every company has a way of working, which becomes standard throughout your company’s life. At APOGEA, we try to adjust your working habits to the new sharing culture so you can keep hold of everything that has worked for you thus far. When it comes to our working rhythm, we adapt to your availability, although we always recommend a continual, immersing process.

It is extremely important that all agents are willing to welcome the change: our methods involve all agents so that everyone feels like an important part of the BIM transition.

At APOGEA, we boast extensive experience implementing BIM in a vast range of companies (size, discipline, culture) and have continuously evolved during that time, which enables us to employ a very effective BIM implementation methodology, including the following stages:

1. Company Analisis

We collect all the data we need to create an implementation proposal that best suits your type of company.

2. Standard Creation

Once we have collected all the data we need about the company (workflows, procedures, standards, technical resources, human resources, etc.), we create a Style Guide that outlines how BIM projects should be developed, including everything from the nomenclatures that should be used to the information exchanges that are going to take place.

We also draft Project Templates adapted to your company’s work methods and the project stages (Design, Construction) in which you will participate so that you start working in line with the project type right from the training stage.

Both will evolve throughout the implementation process as we receive feedback from all company members.

3. Training

We create a Training Plan in line with your company’s needs. How? We analyse the BIM uses that you are going to need for your projects and assess how much your staff already knows about BIM. We understand that they may have varying levels of BIM training, so we will structure sessions to tailor for their learning needs.

We also consider what type of company you have, and especially look at its size. Companies with several departments that develop all parts of the project often require several training stages, where the teams who participate at the start of the project are trained first, followed by the rest of the teams.

4. Proyecto Piloto

The pilot project represents the last, most crucial, implementation stage.

It must be selected at the start of the implementation process so that training can be planned during the project. What’s more, we always recommend that the company uses the project type that it is most familiar with.

Depending on the company type and size, we create a group for all staff members (e.g. for an architect office of 10-15 members) or select a group that is going to receive the first training sessions, including those staff members who are more familiar with BIM. We recommend this for large companies with several departments that undertake all project tasks as it minimises the impact on performance during the first projects.

APOGEA is responsible for the project’s BIM Management during this stage, but we prepare your future BIM Manager with the knowledge that they need to manage and coordinate BIM projects. We undertake the following tasks during the pilot project stage:

  • Project development planning: we create the BIM Execution Plan, which outlines all the agents’ responsibilities and the procedures that must be carried out.
  • 24-hour online customer service via BIM Service: we implement a communication platform so that all project team members are directly in contact with our specialists to resolve any type of query that could arise during the project. We guarantee to respond to all queries in less than 2 hours.
  • Model auditing. We set milestones by which all specialists will audit the models to ensure that they are coherent and complete.

We collect some key performance indicators (KPI) during the project, which help us measure how successful different aspects of the implementation process have been. When the pilot project is complete, we collect all the KPI and analyse them so that we can specify the level of success and recommend improvements for those areas that appear weak.

We provide BIM implementation services to share our expertise in BIM with you and create processes so that your company can independently use BIM methods during your projects and will no longer need to outsource.
