BIM FOR ENGINEERING

PUBLICLY FUNDED PROJECTS

ROAD-BIM: Designing and developing BIM technologies to validate and manage road projects, road exploitation and road infrastructure security management.

ROAD-BIM’s main objective is to ensure that road projects are more efficient throughout their life cycle, which can be achieved by applying BIM technology during the information management processes required during its implementation.

We reach this objective by designing, developing and validating a series of computer applications used during different stages of the road life cycle (design, construction and exploitation). We take advantage of BIM technology’s potential and possibilities, which means we are able to manage the information needed to comprehensively develop this type of project more efficiently.

Using BIM for civil works is already a realitye

Although BIM technologies are already widely used for building projects, they are also gaining ground in the civil works sector, making them a reality. Several groups of experts and some R&D departments in private companies are analysing how BIM are used for building projects and researching how to extend their experience to all branches of Civil Engineering: roads, tunnels, viaducts, bridges, railways, etc. Open BIM standards are being developed so that information can be shared among all agents involved in a project, during all stages of the infrastructure‘s life cycle.

APOGEA has been committed to BIM since it was first adopted by the civil sector and we are currently developing an R&D project called Road BIM in collaboration with Sacyr, Typsa, Aplitop and Valencia Polytechnic University, which manages road projects and their exploitation, and provides safety management. This initiative has been selected within the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness’s Feder Innterconecta programme.

There are many benefits to virtualising the construction process, improved working relationships between those involved, reduced turnaround time and costs as decisions can be made more quickly, optimised project planning, safer, more productive working environments.

DO YOU WANT TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THE MOST ADVANCED MASTER’S IN BIM FOR INFRASTRUCTURES?

APOGEA and our partners BIM Academy and Zigurat Global Institute of Technology have launched the first BIM Master’s specialising in Engineering and Civil Works throughout its life cycle.

“This Master’s degree is novel as it focusses on those aspects that the market is demanding in the area of Civil Engineering: how to digitise all aspects of a motorway, railway or hydraulic installation from the conception stage right through its life cycle.”
